Support Groups

Ìyá Pittsburgh understands the importance of community support for pregnancy, birth, parenting, and reproductive health. This is why Ìyá Pittsburgh is proud to include facilitated support groups in its expanding offerings for the community.

Support Groups & Purpose

At this time, support groups will be held in-person or virtually using Google Meet. Ìyá Pittsburgh Project hosts peer support groups that are facilitated by a licensed Master’s level perinatal social worker (LSW) under supervision by a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), or by another qualified facilitator. These support groups are NOT intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any physical or mental health concerns. Participants who need a level of physical or mental healthcare that is only provided by licensed healthcare providers will be referred out to those appropriate providers, including the option to see our partnered therapist. Support groups are provided with the hopes that they will benefit participants in multiple positive ways. Participants can:

  • gain a better understanding of personal goals and values within the context of peer support

  • improve interpersonal relationships

  • experience a sense of solidarity with other participants

  • develop resolutions of the specific concerns that led to seeking out group support

Our social worker/therapist is continually working behind the scenes with community members and partners to develop new and fresh support groups (in-person and virtual) as community interests and needs evolve. Please check back here frequently for more information!
